Ulsteinvik, 3 July 2020 Press release - Kleven Verft will send petition for bankruptcy
The boards of Kleven Verft AS and the two subsidiaries Kleven Maritime Contracting AS and Kleven Maritime Technology AS will on Friday 3 rd July 2020 send the petitions to open bankruptcy all three companies. The petitions will be delivered to Sunnmøre District Court.
- Our ambition was to develop Kleven and establish our company in Norway and it is therefore highly regrettable that we did not reach a solution in this difficult situation. We have worked hard to find solutions, and together with employees gave it our best, but we have not succeeded. We will not talk further about the reasons says CEO and chairman of Kleven Tomislav Debeljak.
All employees at Kleven will continue to work and perform their normal tasks until further notice. All employees are covered by the wage guarantee scheme.
- We will now work closely together with the administrator of the estate to see if the missing payments that some workers have experienced can be disbursed quicker, Debeljak continues. In week 26, the creditors choose to terminate the loan agreements with Kleven and close the bank accounts of the companies. DIV GROUP believes that the banks have no legal reason to do so and have tried to come up with a solution to the situation.
- DIV Group has experienced several obstacles during the integration process of Kleven, making it extremely difficult to manage the company’s operations. Once the new CEO was appointed on 22nd June and it was made clear that a serious turnaround was needed in order to have the company stable and profitable, the loan agreement was terminated, says Debeljak. DIV GROUP bought Kleven in March 2020.COVID 19 has led to a downturn in the market and there have also been financial challenges with existing contracts signed at the yard.
- In this short period of time we have understood that not everyone share our goal of achieving a strong and stable Kleven. As foreign investors in Norway we regret to have been, at least temporarily, stopped in our plans and we will continue fighting to clarify the situation and has initiated an independent investigation of the facts, states Tomislav Debeljak.
